Pre TT Classic 2006
The 2006 Pre TT Classic saw a lower Greeves entry than in previous years, however the regulars of Paul Coward, Mervyn Stratford (250s) and Ian Rycroft (350cc) were entered. Also entered on a Greeves in the 250cc Races was Kiwi Paul Dobbs, although this failed to materialise. After Practice the fastest for the 250cc Singles was Paul Coward, and Mervyn Stratford, so these started as favourites.
The 250cc/350cc Singles race got underway on Saturday evening in fine conditions, unfortunately Paul coward failed to make it for the start, as he had fell heavily from Dave Nourish's Weslake in the preceding practice session. The 350cc race win went to Bill Swallow (Aermacchi) with Mike Hose (Bultaco) second. Ian Rycroft had a good run to bring his Oulton home in 12th place. The 250cc race saw a start to finish victory for Mervyn, with the ever youthful Ted Fenwick second and Roger Birkenhead third ( Both Ducatis).
Mervyn did not fair so well in the rain soaked 250cc Lightweight race on Monday, as he crashed out at Castletown corner on the last lap suffering a bruised shoulder and slight concussion. Paul Coward, having recovered from Saturdays spill took the win on board an Ariel Arrow.
